Who would've thought we'd get into racing?  Hummm.  Back in January 2005, I took the kids to the Monster Jam at the Tacoma Dome.  My company had tickets to the pit party, so I thought it'd be fun to take them up front and close to the big trucks and getauthographs signed by the drivers.

Only one thing, the kids were more interested in these smaller cars parked on the side with kid drivers.  So we picked up the brochure, got a couple of pictures taken with some of the drivers, talked with some of the parents and came home to tell Dad all about it.  So, we looked at the ride day flyer and decided to go and take a look and let the kids try it out.  Harley took to it right away.

Dad looked around at the different cars that were up for sale.  We grabbed an application and went home to ponder on it.  Soon after, we bought the car, was on-line looking for the correct suit, helmet, etc.  and off to driver's training and six weeks later - it was Novice Graduation and Novice Challenge.

I wasn't quite sure I was ready for this, but we were in it whether I liked it or not.  The thought of my kid in a car with a powerful engine, out there with other 5 & 6 year olds, but it was a great first year and a wonderful experience for all of us.

Our second year, was just as exciting.  Harley now moved out of the Novice class and into Jr. Honda.  He would now be competing against kids who have been racing for 3 years and had much more experience than he did.  Gary built a new car for him and we had it inspected and passed by the region safety director.  Harley did pretty good for what he was up against, but still, you could see the experienced drivers seem to still pull ahead.

2008 was our 4th year of racing and you can see how the skill level has increased.  Harley ran a full winter season and placed 3rd in his Honda 120 class and 1st in his Honda 160 class.  This year he ran in the Sr. Honda 120 class and the Lt. 160 class.  In his Sr Honda class he was one of the babies of the group with the playing field of approximately 10 drivers.  Harley went on to win the 2008 Senior Honda Championship and placed 7th in his Lt. 160 class.

2009 was a trying year.  He had on and off days.  Good and bad calls, hard luck with crashes.  He ran Sr Honda for the beginning of the year, then he was able to run Briggs World Formula, so we switched him.  It was a small class, but he did pretty good.

Keep checking back for continued updates.
